Well, today marks the first year anniversary of Elysium’s first release into its public pre-alpha testing phase and two years since I first started fiddling with the idea of making a game for myself. I’ve both fallen far short of my goals, and exponentially exceeded my expectations.
I want to thank everyone for all the sentiment they’ve been sending out lately and I really wish I had an update, lore post or something to commemorate Elysium’s birthday but alas, this has not been a good month for Elysium. After the events at the shop, I took this week to basically just unplug, shutdown and recharge. I tinkered on Elysium at a relaxed pace and fixed a small number of bugs, but otherwise did very little on that front. I spent time with the family, cleaned up my apartment with Lilly, cooked with her, watched movies, played some games and generally just relaxed. I feel refreshed, but at the same time, a tad melancholy.
I wish Elysium could be more than it is right now, but I’m also quite proud of what it is. It’s my creation, my game and it’s been an exciting personal and public journey for me. I’ve learned a lot and It’s come a long way from the little “let’s see if I can make a health bar” test it started off as, but after over a year of lofty goals, over-expectant ideas and a slow, semi-steady rate of progress, it’s still got a long way to go to be the game I want it to be. I want to thank everyone for all of their feedback and continued interest in this meandering little experiment of mine. Hopefully one of these days the gems in this chunk of rock will surface. Anyways, I’ll be getting back to whittling away at it and hopefully things can get back on track soon. Summer is here, I’m off of school for a while and don’t have too many plans (outside of work), so provided my usual “bad luck and lack of time management” decides to let up, things should be able to swing back into the productive soon.
I’ll see about working out a new lore post soon as well, seeing as it’s been quite a while and you all still haven’t gotten the info post on Elysium’s denizens and races. No promises as usual, but I’ll see what happens.
